Zack Moss describes what attracted him to the Bengals over the Cowboys in free agency

The Joe Burrow effect takes on several forms. Many free agents have flocked to the Cincinnati Bengals to play with No. 9 for one reason or another.

Championship aspirations? An offense built around an elite quarterback? Explosive weapons to complement?

Running back Zack Moss can attest to a couple of those.

In an appearance on Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams, Moss touched on what made his choice to sign with the Bengals over other suitors such as the Dallas Cowboys clear in his mind.

"Cincy just made the most sense," Moss told Adams. "From the structure of the offense and how the offense is played, and kind of the scheme of the offense and what they want to do. It's a lot of shotgun offense, a lot of inside zone gap scheme runs and things of that nature."

As Cincinnati's offense has continued to evolve in lockstep with Burrow, the run game has dramatically changed with it. The Bengals run most of their ground game from 11 personnel with Burrow in the gun, and Moss was one of the best running backs in those situations in 2023.

The Bengals will need to go under center more to balance things out, and Moss' new running mate, Chase Brown, showed competence in those formations.

Brown is not the only athlete defenses will have to worry about aside from Moss. The concept of sharing the field with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins was just another attractor for the fifth-year running back.

"It's hard to turn down a guy like [Joe] Burrow, guys like [Ja'Marr] Chase and [Tee] Higgins and just all the talent on both sides of the ball. It's so much space, that really intrigued me," Moss said. "Being able to play in a box when you only got six guys, maybe seven and if there's seven, it's kind of gonna be real hard for them defend the pass game. So it's just something that I was like very, very intrigued about and super excited to be a Bengal."

Moss did all the math in his head and the answer was signing a two-year, $8 million deal to join the Bengals' offense. The offer was also reportedly larger than what the Cowboys had offered

Money and fit drives free agency, and it drove Moss down I-74 to the Queen City.
