It’s been impressive to watch former Nebraska football quarterback Adrian Martinez this spring for the Birmingham Stallions and on Saturday, the one-time Huskers led his team to a seventh straight win to start the 2024 season in the UFL.

The UFL was a merger of the USFL and the XFL. But it’s been a great opportunity for Martinez to show what he can do and you’d have to think that the former Scott Frost recruit for Nebraska football, who started for four seasons before transferring to Kansas State, could get a shot in the NFL with how he’s played.

On Saturday, Martinez accounted for 290 total yards and three touchdowns. He had three touchdown passes and rushed for 60 yards. He also led his team on a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter.

You wish that Martinez would have had more games like that for Nebraska football. But the truth is that he did. He just didn’t have the team around him to take advantage.

It also hurts a little because it shows how effective Martinez can be or could have been with the right players and coaches around him, which he didn’t have in his time with Nebraska football.

Martinez is third in the UFL in passing yards (1,202), second in touchdown passes (10), first in rushing yards (387) and he has just one interception. This is also in just four games. He’s been electric and his team will play in the USFL conference championship game, which is basically the league’s semifinal round.

So if Husker fans are looking for a reason to watch some football this spring, they have one.

Cole Evans walks off Indiana for Nebraska baseball win

The Nebraska baseball team brought a two-game losing streak into Saturday night’s game against Indiana. The Huskers needed a win for the Big Ten standings, their postseason hopes, and just in general.

Sometimes, you just need a win and after blowing back-to-back leads in the ninth inning, Cole Evans delivered Nebraska baseball what it needed belting a three-run, walk-off home run in the 10th inning.

It gave the Huskers a much-needed 5-2 win. It also moved them into a second-place tie with Indiana and Purdue. Illinois has a one-game lead at 14-6. Nebraska, Purdue, and Indiana are 13-7.

Nebraska baseball will face Indiana again on Sunday at 11:05 on the Big Ten Network.
