Lando Norris reveals his ‘35 second bet’ over defeating Ferrari at the Chinese GP
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

Lando Norris has brought another podium to McLaren as he pulls off P2 in the Chinese GP. An emotional weekend for him, yet, in any case, his wits are intact as he jokes about his bet. Norris had a bet ahead of that race that perhaps his team would end up 35 seconds behind Ferrari.

To his pleasant surprise, Lando Norris ended up being ahead of both Ferraris’ who were able to place themselves at P4 and P5 respectively. A great end to the British driver’s weekend as he returns home with a big smile on his face.

While talking to the media about the bet, Norris had the following to say.

I made a bet about how far behind the #Ferrari we would finish today, I thought 35 seconds and I was very wrong! Lando Norris said during the post race interview

The British driver was also declared the Driver of the day. From claiming the pole in sprint qualifying to not being able to secure a top-three finish in the Sprint race to finally getting P2 in the main Grand Prix, the weekend was filled with several ups and downs for Norris. He is now right behind Carlos Sainz in the 2024 Drivers’ Championship.

Lando Norris is content with his performance at the Chinese GP

Lando Norris sees a win coming his way very soon. The 24-year-old usually gets a podium when he finishes at P2 or P3, however, he has yet to claim his first win. After having a roller coaster of a weekend in Shanghai, the Brit is happy with the result, moreover, he believes that whenever he finishes behind Max Verstappen, he has usually had a great day.

While talking about the same with the media, Norris added the following.

Whenever I finish behind Max, its a great day. I wasn't expecting a day like today. Happy for myself and the team. I got into clean air and could control my race from there. Max is doing a good job and Red Bull a great job, we can't fault them. I think we can get a win this year, I definitely feel that it is coming. Lando Norris said during the post race interview

Norris has always enjoyed the competition between him and Verstappen, and being the true sportsman that he is, he has never failed to praise the reigning world champion. McLaren is off to a great start as they stand third in the 2024 constructors championship. A few more wins like these and they hold a real chance of outshining the Maranello-based Ferrari outfit.
