Ex-F1 team owner deems Alpine’s 2024 struggles as ’embarrassing’ insists Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly will leave if things don’t improve

The Alpine F1 team to the surprise of many, has got off to a horrendous start during the ongoing 2024 season. After two races, the team is plumb last in the Constructors Championship, and seeing the state of things, ex-F1 team owner, Eddie Jordan has given a damning verdict.

Jordan ardently feels that the current state of the Enstone-based team is embarrassing. He is surprised as to where the team has fallen and has warned them, that they can lose out of both their drivers at the end of this year.

Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly are well-established F1 drivers. They both have a plethora of experience and have won a Grand Prix. Jordan feels it is high time that Alpine starts delivering for them.

At the moment, they are the most floundering team. It is absolutely embarrassing. I found it embarrassing to watch. Gasly and Ocon are capable of winning races. with Alpine in the current vision, do I see them there next year? Absolutely not! Eddie Jordan said via Formula for Success podcast

Alpine’s A524 is nowhere near the level that is required to compete with midfield teams like McLaren, Aston Martin, etc. Moreover, the state of things is so bad that they would be lucky if they manage to compete with the lights of Williams, Haas, and, the Stake F1 team at next week’s Australian GP.

Esteban Ocon claims there is no way to ‘sugarcoat’ Alpine’s struggles

While Eddie Jordan has warned Alpine that it can lose out on both of its drivers at the end of 2024, Ocon after the Saudi Arabian GP admitted that there is no way to hide the French team’s F1 struggles. The 27-year-old despite putting the A524 through the absolute wringer, was only able to manage a P13 finish.

Ocon envisions a long road ahead for the Alpine outfit.

We will only get there step by step. We have a plan with development parts that we will bring to the car over the course of the season. Hopefully, they will take us forward. But it’s clear to everyone here, it won’t happen overnight. It went a little better than in Bahrain but we’re behind. No one can sugarcoat that. Esteban Ocon said in an interview in Jeddah

The Alpine F1 team ended the 2022 season in a commendable fourth position in the Constructors Championship, but it plummeted to sixth last year. Seeing the trend and the team’s ongoing struggles, there is a very real possibility that the Bruno Famin-led team could finish at the bottom of the standings 2024 standings.
